A plush, hard-hitting display type with genuine depth of design,
Rhodaelian combines maximum persuasive force with stunning visual presence and more than a hint of magnetism.
Rhodaelian resonates with industrial design of the early 21st century. Clean, smart structures defined by discrete curves and equally subtle detailing—a calculated blend of sharp and smooth.
Proportion-wise,
Rhodaelian parallels gothic blackletters at the apogee of their development: narrow, compact letterforms with an emphasis on the vertical; ascenders and descenders reduced to a minimum; stroke (weight) equal to or greater than correspondingly narrow counters; rich, warm tone generated by close-set strokes.
Rhodaelian avoids the uniform styling of most typefaces in its class in which similar or recurring elements—if not the complete typeface—are given a uniform structure and finish. Far from arbitrary,
Rhodaelian’s multifaceted design is systematic; soft letters like ‘o’, ‘e’, ‘h’ are given smooth corners, while ‘hard’ letters, eg: ‘q’, ‘p’, ‘n’, are sharp-cornered and squarer in form. In this way, the mechanics of spoken language are emulated graphically, resulting in a literal analog of speech. The differentiated approach also adds visual richness, subtly replacing the blandness we normally experience from industrially designed objects, without sacrificing the basic unity of the font.
Rhodaelian is an original moniker created for this typeface.
