Battling is a geometric sans serif inspired by the ‘Universelles’ types, distributed by the Dutreix typefoundry, in Limoges, in the 1930’s. They were probably designed to challenge the ‘Europe’ (French name of Paul Renner’s Futura) in the field of modernist sans serifs.
Battling is a robust and raw typeface, which retain the clumsiness of its original model. So, it has a kind of ‘teenager vim’, rough and rowdy. In the medium and bold weights of
Battling has a set of titling capitals, ornamented with a thin line of light.
Battling also has arrows and roman numerals in small capitals.
